An inspired-by perfume is made by sourcing premium fragrance oils, then blending, bottling, quality-checking and hand-packing them to a finished product. We do that in Liverpool. The perfume oil is built from the same materials the wider industry uses, the natural absolutes and the modern aroma molecules, and it is blended to a high concentration, then filled, checked and packed by hand under our own name. The reason a good inspired-by fragrance can wear as long and as true as a designer original is not a secret ingredient, it is oil concentration and honest quality control.
TFW perspective: we will not pretend to be something we are not. We do not distil our own raw materials from flowers in a Liverpool field, and any brand that claims to is stretching the truth. What we do is source premium oils, then do the blending, bottling, quality control and packing ourselves, in-house, in the UK. That is where the value comes from, and it is enough of a story on its own without embellishing it.
The four steps, honestly described
1. Sourcing the oils
Every fragrance begins with the perfume oil, the concentrate that carries the scent. We source premium fragrance oils from established suppliers who serve the wider industry. These oils are built from the same categories of material a designer house uses: natural essential oils and absolutes, plus the synthetic aroma molecules that define modern perfumery, such as ambroxan, cetalox, Iso E Super and hedione. These molecules are not imitations of anything, they are the standard building blocks of contemporary scent, and the same suppliers sell them across the whole market.
2. Blending to concentration
The oil is blended with the carrier to a finished eau de parfum. This is the step that decides how a fragrance performs. We blend at 22 to 30 per cent oil concentration, which sits at the top of the eau de parfum band, above the 15 to 20 per cent that is the industry standard. That higher oil load is the single biggest reason our fragrances wear 8 to 14 hours on skin. Concentration is not a marketing claim, it is a measurable ratio, and it is the honest reason a £29.95 bottle can perform like a much more expensive one.
3. Bottling and quality control
The blend is filled into our own bottles, under our own product names, and then quality-checked. Every batch is assessed for consistency, colour and scent before it goes out, so that the Five Forty you buy this month wears the same as the one you bought last year. This is also where the safety documentation sits: each product is CPSR-assessed and formulated within IFRA limits before it is ever sold.
4. Hand-packing in Liverpool
Finished bottles are packed by hand into our own boxes and mailers at our unit in Liverpool, then dispatched. There is no third-party fulfilment warehouse standing between us and the order. That is part of why we can hold £29.95 for a 50ml EDP: we are not paying a distributor, a boutique or a middle layer of markup, and the people who blend and check the fragrance are the same operation that packs and sends it.
Why the chemistry is not brand-specific
Here is the part the luxury market would rather you did not think about. The molecules that make a modern fragrance last, the fixatives like ambroxan, cetalox, Iso E Super and cashmeran, are identical no matter whose name is on the bottle. They come from the same suppliers, meet the same regulatory standards, and behave the same way on skin. A designer house does not have a private version of ambroxan. What it has is a brand, a boutique network and an advertising budget, and those are what the extra £200 pays for. The smell costs roughly the same to build wherever it is built. What we do not do
- We do not distil or synthesise raw materials from scratch. We source finished premium oils, then blend, bottle, check and pack them.
- We do not copy any designer’s bottle, cap, logo or packaging. Everything is sold under our own name, such as Wild and TV.
- We do not claim a fragrance is identical to an original. A good inspired-by scent is a close alternative, and we describe it as exactly that.
