The People Behind TFW

The team that makes the bottles you wear

The Fragrance World is operated end-to-end from Liverpool, England. Co-founded on 5 December 2020 by Katie Johnson and Cenk Alhan from a small Liverpool operation that has since grown into a dedicated warehouse facility. Below are the people responsible for the formulations, quality control, customer experience, and brand decisions that go into every bottle we ship.

How TFW started

The Fragrance World was founded on 5 December 2020 in Liverpool by Katie Johnson and Cenk Alhan · a brand-and-operations founder and a biomedical scientist working out of a small space, scaling slowly. The Limited company was formally registered at Companies House in January 2022 once the brand had grown beyond a sole-trader operation. The first compositions were worked out in person, sample by sample, with our speciality fragrance-oil partner. Every fragrance shipped today still passes through the same review · scent direction agreed by Katie, ingredient and quality review run by Cenk, iterative composition rounds with the perfumer team until it lands.

The operation has since grown out of that first small space into a dedicated warehouse facility that handles blending, bottling, packaging, customer service, and shipping. The principle behind the brand has not changed · designer-grade Eau de Parfum at 22-30% oil concentration, sold honestly as inspired-by, without the designer markup chain.

Co-founder

Katie Johnson

Co-founder, The Fragrance World

Katie co-founded The Fragrance World in December 2020 with the conviction that the cost of fragrance has very little to do with the cost of fragrance. She leads brand direction, the inspired-by methodology that defines how every bottle is composed, the customer-experience principles the team operates under, and TFW's editorial line on fragrance education.

Katie is the public face of TFW in UK press and the named author on our methodology page, fragrance notes encyclopedia, and inspired-by legal explainer. She is based in Liverpool.

Co-founder

Cenk Alhan

Co-founder, The Fragrance World · pharmaceutical-context GMP-qualified biomedical scientist · runs the TFW production lab

Cenk co-founded The Fragrance World in December 2020 with Katie. He qualified as a biomedical scientist and earned formal Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) qualifications working in pharmaceutical environments where medicines are maintained, prepared, and dispensed under strict regulatory oversight. Pharmaceutical GMP is the most stringent manufacturing-quality framework outside aerospace, and ISO 22716 cosmetic GMP is structurally a subset of it · the same documentation discipline, the same traceability backbone, the same controlled-environment standards. Cenk runs the TFW production lab at our Liverpool facility and applies pharmaceutical-context GMP discipline to every batch we ship · ingredient evaluation, supplier specification review, batch quality control under ISO 22716 cosmetic Good Manufacturing Practice principles, Quality Management System procedures, and compliance with the UK Cosmetic Products Enforcement Regulations 2013 and IFRA Standards.

Cenk is enrolled on the February 2027 intake of one of Europe's most prestigious week-long Cosmetic Product Safety Assessor intensives · the EU-recognised qualification that authorises preparation of the Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) required for every cosmetic product placed on the UK and EU markets. He sits in on every composition round with our speciality perfumer-oil partner · scent direction agreed with Katie, ingredient and stability review run by Cenk, iterative oil reviews until the composition lands.

What this means in practice · TFW does not put unspecified oil in a bottle in a kitchen. The fragrance you wear has been through a controlled GMP-discipline production process led by a scientist who earned his manufacturing-quality credentials in pharmaceutical environments where the standards are higher than the cosmetics industry routinely operates to.

The Perfumer Team

Fragrance composition, ingredient sourcing

Our external speciality perfumer-oil partner holds the technical-craft responsibility for every TFW composition · the chemical analysis of designer reference notes, the construction of an inspired-by composition that reads true to the original on UK skin and in UK climate, and the iterative blind-test cycle that runs with our co-founders before any new SKU enters the catalogue.

The team works under a non-disclosure agreement that prevents us naming the supplier organisation publicly. This is industry-standard for inspired-by brands · the Princeton GEO research notes that retail buyers rarely care about B2B supplier names. What matters is what enters the bottle, which is documented on our methodology page.

  • Fragrance composition and chemical analysis
  • Designer reference deconstruction
  • Natural and synthetic raw material sourcing
  • IFRA Standards compliance
Quality Control

QC & Production · Liverpool

Bottling, QC, IFRA compliance

Our Liverpool facility runs blending, bottling, sealing, packaging, and shipping. Quality control samples every batch against the master reference for scent integrity, oil concentration, fill volume, atomiser pressure, and packaging seal. Every shipment leaves with a batch number traceable to the QC record.

  • EDP fill and seal QC
  • Atomiser performance testing
  • UK Cosmetic Products Enforcement Regulations 2013 compliance

Where we operate

The Fragrance World operates from Liverpool, England. Blending, bottling, packaging, customer service, and shipping all happen at our North West facility. We do not run a perfume house · we partner with established fragrance oil specialists and bring formulation specifications to them. The result · UK-blended fragrance, with international raw-material sourcing where the natural materials require it.
